Ford Escape Motion Sensing Liftgate

Ford is planning to officially unveil the new 2013 Ford Escape on November 16, but there is one very important feature we just can't wait to share with you. The 2013 Ford Escape will gain the industry's first-ever, hands-free liftgate operated by motion sensing technology.

Like gesture-reading video games, the SUV will automatically open with a simple kicking motion under the rear bumper. To close the liftgate, simply swing your leg under the bumper again.

This state-of-the-art feature will revolutionize drivers experience and perhaps even prevent a back sprain or two. Jason Spawka, Brand Manager, Ford Escape explains, "The hands-free power liftgate is yet another innovative Ford technology that makes customers' lives easier. New Escape owners will be able to load their vehicle without ever having to set packages or gear down."1

For those wondering if anything beside a kicking motion can activate the liftgate, rest assured the engineers at Ford thought about every possible scenario when designing it. It will not be opening and closing all night, every time a raccoon or stray cat crawls under the vehicle. Equipped with two sensors, the technology is able to distinguish a human calf from an animal and identify a kicking motion from scurrying.

Lindsay Ford can't wait to bring you the rest of the updates Ford is making to the 2013 Explorer, following its L.A. debut. So be sure to stay tuned. In the mean time, feel free to explore our fast growing lineup of new Ford models online.
